Mr. Jeffrey Gaylor

Mr. Gaylor was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia.  Graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Technology Education.

Taught in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools NC for 30 years retired and began teaching here at ATEC/WTC in August of 2015.

Mr. Gaylor is married and has a daughter who graduated from USC in Columbia and works for Trust Bank in Charlotte. His wife teaches Kindergarten at Pine Tree Hill.

The Gaylor's are Carolina Panther PLS owners and season tickets holders.

Mr. Gaylor is an avid Deer Hunter.

Pre-Engineering (PLTW) Course Listing

From launching space explorations to delivering safe, clean water to communities, engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. Honors Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program’s courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

PLTW - Honors Introduction to Engineering Design     605182HD

Grades 10 – 12                                                 

2 units

Prerequisite:  Honors Geometry

Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects.  They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software and use an engineering notebook to document their work. Successful completion of the National PLTW Assessment will allow the credit to be AP-weighted on the Uniform Grading Scale. *Students can earn AP weight with proficiency score on national exam* 

PLTW - Honors Principles of Engineering     605082HD

Grades 10 – 12                                                

2 units

Prerequisite:  Honors Introduction to Engineering Design

Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation.  Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. Successful completion of the National PLTW Assessment will allow the credit to be AP-weighted on the Uniform Grading Scale. *Students can earn AP weight with proficiency score on national exam*

Prerequisite: Honors Principles of Engineering and teacher recommendation

Students who have successfully completed the Level 1 and Level 2 courses have the option of registering for Level 3 with the recommendation of the teacher
