Honors Engineering

About the Honors Engineering Program

From launching space explorations to delivering safe, clean water to communities, engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. Honors Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program’s courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

Mr. Eric Jones

Hi, I’m Eric. Eric is the only name I’ve ever answered to until I joined the dedicated team at Woolard Technology Center in 2023 as the Engineering instructor.  At that time, very special people started referring to me as Mr. Jones.

I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from USC which I earned 13 years after graduating from Ridge View High School.  I took a long break from school where I worked as a mechanic gaining skills in diagnosing and repairing faulty assemblies and electrical systems.  I also worked as a machinist where I created physical objects out of two-dimensional drawings.  My great interest in mechanical assemblies combined with the desire to create my own designs are what ultimately pushed me to finish my degree.  I was a full-time engineer for ten years, performing duties from equipment reliability to product design, prior to joining the WTC team.

I live in Camden with my wife, four children and posse of dogs, cats, horses and various other furry or feathered animals.  While I never set a course to become a high school instructor, I have found joy in the challenge of sharing my knowledge to inquisitive young minds in a meaningful way.
