About the Honors Engineering Program

From launching space explorations to delivering safe, clean water to communities, engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. Honors Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program’s courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.

Mr. Eric Jones

Mr. Jones joined the Woolard Technology Center team as the Engineering instructor in 2023. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina after graduating from Ridge View High School.

Before completing his engineering degree, Mr. Jones worked as both a mechanic and a machinist, gaining hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems and creating physical components from technical drawings. He later spent ten years as a full-time engineer, working in areas ranging from equipment reliability to product design.

Mr. Jones lives in Camden with his wife, four children, and a collection of dogs, cats, horses, and other furry and feathered animals. Although teaching wasn't originally part of his career plan, he has found a passion for sharing his engineering knowledge and experience with students and challenging them to think, design, build, and problem-solve.
