Prerequisite: Be 16 years old by the start date of the course. This is a spring semester course. 

This course is based on the learning objectives listed in IFSTA’s Essentials of Fire Fighting, 7^th Edition (2018), Sitllwater, OK: Fire Protection Publications, Oklahoma State University.  These objectives have been further modified by the South Carolina Fire Academy to meet the needs of the South Carolina fire service.  Course completion alone does not meet the criteria for achieving national certification for Fire Fighter 1.  National-level firefighter certification testing is separate.  A sports/medical physical is required prior to taking this class. Students need to be the age of 16 before the class begins to be eligible to test for the certification.

Grades 11 – 12                                                 

2 units

Prerequisite: Fire Fighter 1 and teacher recommendation

Students who have successfully completed the Fire Fighter 1 certification have the option of registering for this course with the recommendation of the teacher.
