Networking Systems

Recommended Grade Level:  10 - 11
1 Unit
Prerequisite:  Fundamentals of Computing. Must register for both Networking Fundamentals and Advanced Networking.

Students in the Networking program will perform networking tasks commonly performed by system administrators, network administrators, network engineers and related careers. Students manage hardware and software network components including IP configuration, setting up wireless and wired networks, managing networks, basic network security, software updates, hardware upgrades and network protocols.  Students will learn about configuring and maintaining networks in home and corporate environments.

Prerequisite:  Fundamentals of Computing. Must register for both Networking Fundamentals and Advanced Networking.

Advanced Networking is a continuation of Networking Fundamentals.  Students will have the opportunity to earn TestOut Network Pro Certification.

Prerequisite:  Any of the Following: Computer Repair, Networking Fundamentals, Fundamentals of Webpage Design and Development, Law Enforcement 2 (with Fundamentals of Computing)

In computer forensics, students gain a fundamental knowledge of computer forensics and the investigation of computer-related crimes. They will learn to collect, preserve, present, and prepare computer-based evidence for the purposes of criminal law enforcement of civil litigation. Students will have the opportunity to present digital evidence to both business and legal audiences. Students will learn to use tools to locate and analyze digital evidence on a variety of devices, and how to keep up to date with changing technologies, laws and regulations in digital forensics. 

Grades 10 - 12

Prerequisite: Advanced Computer Repair and Service or Advanced Webpage Design and Development or AP Computer Science Principles

This course provides students with a broad exposure to the many aspects of digital and information security, while encouraging socially responsible choices and ethical behavior. It inspires algorithmic and computational thinking, especially “outside-the-box” thinking. Students explore the many educational and career paths available to cybersecurity experts, as well as other careers that comprise the field of information security. Cybersecurity is designed with strong connections to the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (also known as the NICE Framework or NCWF). Created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), this framework identifies standards that have been developed by numerous academic, industry, and government organizations. The objectives also incorporate many of the big ideas and learning objectives outlined by the College Board and addressed in AP CSP and AP CSA. In addition, the course integrates Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) standards. This course satisfies the graduation requirement for a computer science credit. *Students can earn AP weight with proficiency score on national exam*

Grades 11 – 12

Prerequisite: Advanced Computer Repair and Service and teacher recommendation

Students who have successfully completed the Level 1 and Level 2 courses have the option of registering for Level 3 with the recommendation of the teacher. Curriculum continues beyond level 2 and may include internship opportunities.

Prerequisite: Information Technology, WBC 1 and teacher recommendation

Students who have successfully completed the Level 3 course have the option of registering for Level 3 with the recommendation of the teacher. Curriculum continues beyond level 3 and may include internship opportunities.
